GATEWAY NEWS

I added a Telpac node to the system here, after having numerous conversations and a couple of demonstrations of the Winlink 2000 system by N7ZHG.  Compiling and installing DL5DI's telpac-node program was quick and easy.  Interfacing it with my existing AX.25 nodes and BBSs could not have been simpler.  If you are a Winlink 2000 user, WA7V-10 is now one of your options available for a Telpac gateway.

You can connect to it from any of the following nodes:

  • ALW:WA7V-7 --> C WA7V-10
  • ALWGW:WA7V-8 --> C AX9 WA7V-10
  • ALWHUB:WA7V-4 --> C BBS WA7V-10
  • PNW:WA7V-2 --> C 20:WA7V-10
Of course, if you are within range, simply connect directly to WA7V-10 on 144.970 MHz, 1200 baud.  Be advised that it has a yagi beaming southeast from College Place in order to alleviate multipath problems that it encountered with ALW when it was using an omnidirectional antenna.

For a listing of other stations in the region, please visit the Winlink Gateways link from the Spokane County ARES home page (thanks to K7BFL).

*Note -- ALWGW, ALWHUB, and PNW all have a "TELPAC" command alias set up to make the proper connection from each of them.  However, I understand that AirMail clients do not like to use aliases, so these may not be of any real benefit.
